Flat or Low Slope Roofs

A flat or Low Sloped Roof can have many advantages. The first is more water resistant than a higher sloped roof. Steeper roofs allow water to trickle down the slope and into gutters. A flatter roof system has a full-area membrane that is watertight.

Built Up Roofing

Built-Up Roofing (BUR) is one of the oldest and most reliable commercial roofing services & systems for buildings with low-slope or “flat” roof structures. Started in the 1840’s, these roof systems are often referred to as “tar and gravel” roofs. BUR consists of multiple plies of roof felts laminated together with bitumen. BUR consists of bitumen-saturated organic-fiber, fiberglass, or polyester felt. A top-surfacing or a glaze coat of asphalt, aggregate (gravel or slag), fibered, or non-fibered coatings engineered for roof coating, or a granule-surfaced cap sheet.

Modified Bitumen

Modified Bitumen (MB) roofing is an asphalt-based, close cousin of the Built-up-Roof (BUR) designed for buildings with low-slope or “flat” roof structures. Engineered modified bitumen roofing membranes originated in Europe in the mid 1960s and have been used successfully in the United States and Canada since approximately 1975.
